Ah, a morning routine. Every blogger, vlogger, content creator, influencer has created at least one morning routine. And you know what? I love reading and watching morning routines.

Now let me be clear: I am in no way a morning person. I will bark at you if you try to talk to me before nine a.m.—especially if I haven’t had my coffee yet. Now that I’m a grown(ish) adult with a 8-4 job, and a short commute to work, I have an alarm set for six a.m. Fun, right? It’s easy to complain about waking up at six a.m. five days a week…but it’s not that hard! If you just stick to a routine for five days a week, then you’ll be up and going in no time.

6 a.m: my alarm goes off, I hit snooze for 15 minutes.

Yes, yes, I know I just said that waking up early is vital. But I always set my alarm at least 15 minutes before I actually have to wake up. Why? Because I’m waking up my body. It may not be the scientific way of doing things and I might be interrupting REM sleep, but it helps me motivate to get out of bed in the morning.

6:15 a.m: I roll out of bed and brew some coffee. Then, I get back into bed.

I swear, my Keurig machine is precious cargo. I’m no coffee addict (yes, I am), I just like the smell of fresh coffee and enjoy my first cup of joe first thing in the morning. Now here’s the weird part. After making coffee, I climb back into bed. I always get back into bed with my coffee to sit down, breathe, relax, go on social media—I do this because I like relaxing before I have to get up and stress about what I’m going to wear for the day.

7:00 a.m: actually get up and put on makeup.

I have a relatively short and simple makeup routine. I don’t like to wear a lot of makeup to work, so I use the basics: foundation, concealer, and a little bit of mascara if I’m feelin’ myself.

7:15 a.m: dig through my clothes to see what I’m wearing.

Usually, it takes me about five minutes to pick out what I’m going to wear. Unless I’m going to have an existential crisis of what I’m wearing, I know what I’m going to wear. After I throw on an outfit, I straighten my hair. I usually just straighten my hair and I use the L’Oreal “Sleek It Iron Straight Hairspray.” My hair dries straight, but since I shower the night before, I just run a straightener through my hair.

7:30 a.m: pack my work bag and head out.

Usually around this time, I have a few minutes to relax. With this time, I pack my work bag which includes my planner, notebook, keys, and other small stuff. I might write a “What’s in My Work Bag” post, so stay tuned for that.

I usually leave for work around 7:40, and it takes me 10-15 minutes to get to work, depending on traffic. I like being productive in the mornings and getting stuff done. Because when I come home, I can just lounge around and know that I conquered my to-do list well enough.
