I’ve been loving new and old things recently. Since the ball dropped in 2018 (literally feels like so long ago), I’ve just started not taking life so seriously and appreciating all the good in my life. I have a habit of unintentionally focusing on the negativity and getting stressed if people don’t like me — but that’s all going to change in 2018. It’s one of my resolutions and ever since I gave up tearing myself down for Lent, it’s a stepping stone into appreciating what I have to offer and what the world has to offer me.
Before I dive into what I’ve been loving recently, I want to say that this is the first post in my brand new series on my brand new blog “drink coffee with me.” Basically, I’m drinking coffee (per usual) as I write these — and these posts are meant to be a “sit down and chat” posts. It’s just me talking to myself and anyone who else wants to chat!
Since going to the Luke Bryan and Kip Moore concert a while ago, I have been listening to Kip Moore on repeat. His latest album is amazing; his hit “Beer Money” and “Somethin’ Bout a Truck” still make me want to dance as I’m walking across campus to my 11 a.m. class. In fact, I’ve been listening to country music recently (ha typical) on Apple Music and I’m not even ashamed.
I’ve also made a playlist called “female empowerment.” Being in college can be stressful but being a woman in college can be even more stressful. You have to constantly know your worth and prove yourself to be this confident, sassy young millennial woman who knows what she wants. I’m saying and this playlist is saying that you can be whatever you want. I’ll link my Apple Music playlist!
OK, I was in a sorority in college, so this book looked attractive. Dirty Rush by Taylor Bell depicts what it actually means to be active in Greek life. It follows Taylor Bell, a double-triple-quadruple legacy for Beta Zeta who gets “dirty rushed” and it follows her life in the sorority through freshman year. It’s all fun and games until an older girl in BZ sabotages her and almost gets her kicked out of the sorority and becomes a viral laughingstock. I seriously read it in one sitting, that’s how good it was.
eating and loving it:
Of course, I love food. Who doesn’t?! But I tried veggie pasta recently and I like, really love it. Throw in some grape tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella cheese and it tastes amazing. No seriously try it and you won’t regret it. Additionally, LMK a recipe because I’m still figuring out how to get the right amount of dressing in it.
watching on Netflix:
Gossip Girl. Or re-watching, that is. I’ve started from the beginning about a week ago and already towards the end of the first season. Dan Humphrey actually is growing on me. He’s an intellectual, knows what he wants, and doesn’t let snobby Upper East Side trust fund kids get in his way (especially when Nate Archibald, a legacy of Dartmouth, was competing with him to get the usher spot in the episode “Poison Ivy”). I never liked Dan before but now, he’s a character to watch out for and truly an inspiration to “regular” college kids like you and me just trying to pay off student loans.
I think 90 percent of my wardrobe includes leggings. I thought when it got warmer out, I was going to wear denim capris but nooo, I just switched to workout leggings. When I’m not in leggings, I’m either in sweatpants or formal wear because I have to.
So I lived in Southwest VA where it snowed AFTER spring break and the casual outfit was duck boots, leggings, my casual VT hoodie and a long black parka — my parka is actually purple hehe. When it got warmer, I switched to my Birkenstocks, an actual obsession of mine. My day-to-day spring outfit consists of Birkenstocks, leggings, and an oversized t-shirt. Not much of a fashion blogger here.
following on social media:
I love seeing other bloggers on Instagram and Twitter. I love Brooke Miccio, theSwirl (Gabby and Hannah), and Syd Joz. I love seeing their feeds, especially since they’re college bloggers. I get to relate to their funny and personal posts/tweets instead of seeing sponsorships all the time. Their aesthetics are amazing so I 10/10 recommend giving them a follow.
So yeah, hope you at least made it through a cup of coffee (or two) while reading this. I have a few sips left as I finish typing up this article and already going through two country playlists. I’m considering taking a nap in the nap pod sitting next to me in the library but I also have class. Lmk if I should skip and nap, pls.
